Living In My Body (2021), Kumeri Bandara 

 

Artist Kumeri Bandara depicted Elisa Matthews’s endometriosis pain for an endometriosis awareness project by University of Oxford fellow Danielle Perro.

 

After being advised by a nurse to get pregnant, Elisa went six years without using hormonal contraception - which she would have otherwise used for pain management. 

 

Elisa said it felt like being prodded “with a sharp object around your ovaries and in your legs, back, and head… The nurse said […] getting pregnant cures it. Total rubbish.”
