photo of a person

Born in Brazil, Julia is a historian specialising in the history of the body, medicine, and gender. She is finishing her PhD at King's College London, where she researches how medical texts were translated in the 16th and 17th centuries, and what that tells us about cultural perceptions of the female body and reproduction. Julia is an intersectional feminist. She focuses on rethinking gender in history and bringing history into contemporary debates, especially about feminism. You can read some of her work here: juliamartins.co.uk. She also volunteers with The Vavengers.
